We have now applied for litter picking kits on the ‘Adopt a Street’ initiative of Malvern Hills District Council Environmental Department, with a view to organising regular litter picking sessions around the Abberley area.
We will be having a ‘trial run’, concentrating on the main road from Wynniatts Way to Great Witley Garage on Saturday April 27th.
If this is successful, we will be organising the same for the last Saturday of each month. This would mean the next one would be Saturday 25th May at 11am.
We invite suggestions for areas to cover in this and future sessions. Places will be limited.
Please contact us should you wish to register for any session. Carolyn 07790 206793
Members of AHPS and other residents of Abberley recently attended a meeting of the Northern Area Planning Committee regarding the planning application M/22/01440/PIP to discuss the principle of building up to 7 dwellings on land on School Lane, (close to the Long Meadow development and the ongoing development at the Orchards). AHPS had previously objected to this application. At this meeting the application was refused.
On June 11th at 7.30 we are holding a Public Meeting at Abberley Village Hall, at which the main discussion point will be regarding planning.
We hope to provide an informative session for all residents regarding commenting effectively to Malvern Hills District Council on planning applications in this area.
District Councillors Paul and Pam Cumming will hold a “question and answer” session. All are welcome. Please see website and look for posters with full and finalised details.
LITTER PICKING
Saturday 27th April 11.00-12.30
3 members of AHPS successfully cleared the area from Wynniatts Way on the main Worcester-Tenbury road down as far as Great Witley Garage. Although a small start to our Litter Picking initiative, it was very satisfying and therapeutic, and we were able to make a great difference to clearing up the area and in helping to keep our beautiful countryside clean. Much of the litter, being partially buried, suggested that this particular area had not been cleared for a long time. We will contact MHDC to help by perhaps clearing the other side of the road in areas which are too dangerous for individual litter pickers, due to the volume of traffic and lack of footpath.
Several other members have already expressed a desire to help at future events. Everyone is welcome, but please register an interest with Carolyn 07790206793 as we have limited kits. Kits can be obtained (free) for individuals at
www.malvernhills.gov.uk/community/adopt-a-street
Please read the litter safety and guide to litter picking forwarded by MHDC. Please also be aware that litter pickers do so at their own volition and we cannot be responsible for them. Children must be supervised by parents or guardians at all times. (Many areas, such as the April event- are not suitable for children).
The next Litter Pick-up is Saturday 25th May at 11am (for approximately 1 hour). Targeted areas are currently from Shavers End Quarry down towards the Dunley Road, and the layby on the road towards The Bell at Pensax- but these are only suggested venues and may change before the event.
